Gai has been in Ferlas Studio, Penrhyndeudraeth with the talented Richard Roberts (from the band - Gola Ola) working on a new album – Ffish Ffresh. Gai will also be recording at his own Sbensh studio, Rich and Gai are gonna collaborate soon to bring all the work together. This collection of songs will be the first Gai has ever recorded in English.
Also... Gai and the band are jamming another album – Bethel (working title). Bethel is the name of the chapel vestry that Gai will rennovate into his own creative space / recording studio. The idea of the album is to capture the building's acoustics before work is carried out.
"...the songs are the best I've written for a long time"
Both albums due out in 2011 (TBC)
Gai Toms and poet Myrddin ap Dafydd has recently worked on a school project funded by Snowdonia Nat. Park, North Wales. The idea was to visit sites of interest in the area, then get creative in school. Ysgol Capel Garmon, Conwy, visited the Neolithic Burial Chamber nearby. As well as writing poetry and songs about the site, the group between 6 and 11 yrs were inspired to write a song for the buried miners in Chile. The idea came from the idea of Neolithic rebirth (if buried in the earth). The result was a very touching lullaby for the newly born daughter of one of the miners.... she was aptly named Esperanza! The lullaby was called ‘Seren Esperanza’ (Star of Hope).
